The 6th AIT International Grand Prix welcomes world class athletes
AIT International Grand Prix is live on Runnerspace from Athlone, Ireland this Wednesday and you can watch all the action from 1.30pm Eastern time USA. Watch the AIT International Grand Prix live here on Wednedsay. This eagerly anticipated event is beginning to be a real highlight of the indoor season in Europe, which isn’t surprising when a number of Olympic and world championship medallists are set to compete. Labelled Asia’s fastest man, world indoor silver medallist Su Bingtian will be headlining the event in the 60m. As the first Asian-born sprinter to break the iconic sub-10-seconds barrier for the 100m, the 29-year-old will surely impress in Ireland. Over on the field, reigning Olympic pole vault champion and record holder from Rio 2016, Thiago Braz da Silva, is another key competitor and will look to break the Athlone Institute of Technology stadium record. Facing him will be the British talent Adam Hague, who finished forth at the Commonwealth Games last summer. The women’s 400m will be one to watch, with 2017 USA Indoor bronze medallist Kendra Chambers who will face hurdle specialist and European bronze medallist from Berlin 2018, Britain’s Meghan Beesley. They’ll be joined by Ireland’s Phil Healy, who’ll be chasing that all important European qualifying standard of 53.00 seconds. The men’s event looks equally entertaining, with the likes of Thomas Barr who charged to a new Irish national record of 47.97 back in Rio 2016. Alongside him will be British interest Luke Lennon-Ford and Jacob Paul. 4th place at the World Championships in Berlin, Britain’s Kyle Langford will test his indoor speed against Australia’s Jordy Williamsz (1.46.77) and American interest Erik Sowinski, with a lifetime best of 1.44.58. In recent years, the likes of Sam Kendricks, Ashton Eaton, Sally Pearson and Mutaz Essa Barshim have all descended upon this Irish town and its stadium with a notoriously ‘fast track’. So, let’s see what world-class action 2019 has in store. More news |
